Summer in the Carpathians: vacation that charges with impressions

Summer in the mountains has a special charm and beauty: the forests are dressed in thick greenery, the weather stabilizes, and the hiking trails finally dry out. Besides that, entertainment infrastructure starts working at maximum capacity, offering visitors the opportunity to visit numerous attractions and attractions. In June the weather in the Carpathians is very variable: the rains alternate with warm and sunny days, and the total amount of precipitation is average. The air temperature rises to +20 degrees almost at all altitudes, although at the tops it rarely exceeds +10 degrees. Alpine meadows and red rue (rhododendron) covering the slopes are in full bloom at this time. This is a great time for family trips and outdoor activities.

July is the warmest and at the same time the wettest month. The temperature rises to +25 … +27 degrees depending on the altitude. Summer in the Carpathians is not always nice, but the rainfall is rarely prolonged. Moreover, in case of bad weather there are a lot of entertainments! By midsummer most of the mountain herbs die off, but the valleys and forests don’t lose their beauty. In July on the slopes of the mountains berries start ripening and mushrooms appear. This is a great time for a leisurely, relaxing vacation.

August is a perfect time to visit the Carpathian Mountains: the temperature drops to +20 degrees, the weather is dry and sunny, the morning and evening dusk come under a cover of picturesque mists. At this time, blueberries, strawberries, and lingonberries bear fruit en masse. At the end of summer, the weather is favorable for all kinds of recreation.

What to do in the mountains in summer?

Developed infrastructure allows you to choose any kind of leisure. In addition to all-season attractions, a lot of strictly summer entertainments become available! The choice depends on your personal tastes and the composition of the participants of the trip.

  • Active recreation

The Carpathian Mountains are ideal for active leisure. Here you can go climbing, hiking, or trekking. In early summer, mountain rivers are at their fullest, which makes rafting twice as exciting. Rafting of one or more days is available throughout the season. You can conquer the Tisza and Cheremosh rivers by kayak, canoe, or raft under the guidance of experienced instructors. In Bukovel there are over a dozen of interesting activities: a rope park with various difficulty paths, an all-weather sledging track, a rope-jumping tower, bicycle rent, ropeways, and trolleys. Of course, you can’t imagine a summer vacation in the Carpathians without walking on quad bikes, all-terrain vehicles or horses. Fans of extreme sports can choose diving courses or skydiving.

  • The romantic program

Blooming in June, the Carpathians are great for a honeymoon or just a romantic getaway. Slopes dotted with red rue, breathtaking panoramas, full-flowing waterfalls will be the best backdrop for memorable photos. The day can be taken for walks and excursions. Visit Shipot waterfall or the Glade of Love, climb to Hoverla, admire the old bridge in Vorokhta, or go to one of the summer fairs. After a busy day it’s so pleasant to spend the evening in a warm jacuzzi under the open sky with a glass of champagne or taste the traditional dishes in the hotel restaurant.

  • Acquaintance with the cultural heritage of the region

The Carpathians and Transcarpathia are rich in unusual museums and memorable places. Fans of history and ancient legends should definitely visit the Dovbush rocks, Maricheyka or Nesamovyte lakes. If we talk about museums, their largest concentration is waiting for you in Verkhovyna. Here you will find expositions dedicated to Hutsul magic, ethnic musical instruments, folk traditions and rituals, legendary films shot here, famous Ukrainian cultural figures.

  • Entertainment in bad weather

Going to Bukovel in the summer, you can wait out the bad weather in the kolyba restaurant for tasting local culinary delights: cheeses, light vegetable and hearty meat dishes, herbal tea or even aromatic Carpathian wine. There are treats for even the most demanding eater!

Want to be outdoors despite the rain? Then choose a hotel that offers a heated pool/jacuzzi or bathing in traditional hot tubs. They are often installed under awnings or tents, so guests can enjoy the warm water with Carpathian herbs in any weather. A good addition can be a visit to the bath and spa treatments.

  • Verkhovyna. A picturesque village known for the greatest number of museums in Western Ukraine. The rich natural beauty of the area attracts lovers of fishing and rafting, mountain climbing.
  • Vorokhta. In this town you can look at examples of ancient architecture (viaduct bridge, church of the 17th century), visit several museums, arrange river rafting or rock climbing.
  • Skhodnitsa. The local places are famous for their therapeutic mud and healing mineral water springs (more than 40 in total). Therefore, people come here mainly to improve their health.
  • Yaremche. There are a number of natural attractions here: Probiy waterfall and Maiden’s tears, Elephant rock, etc. Also in the city there is a zoo, from which every child will be delighted.
